Montezuma Castle National MonumentMontezuma Castle National Monument Average User Rating: (0 votes, add your vote or comments) ![]() © The Phoenix Guide Montezuma Castle is operated by the National Park Service and is located about 80 miles north of Phoenix and 50 miles south of Flagstaff on Interstate 17. This five-story, 20 room cliff dwelling nestled into a limestone recess high above Beaver Creek served as a "high-rise apartment building" for prehistoric Sinagua Indians over 600 years ago. It is one of the best preserved cliff dwellings in North America. The monument visitor center contains exhibits and information regarding your visit. The 1/3 mile paved trail will take the visitor on a leisurely walk to view Montezuma Castle and other prehistoric dwellings. Hours: Open every day of the year, including Christmas day.
